Theme: “UNiTE to end violence against women and girls”

Location: WEIN Conference Hall

Good morning,

Distinguished guests, partners, colleagues, and friends,

It is a profound honor to stand before you today as we join the global community in marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This campaign, running from November 25th to December 10th, is a call to action—a reminder of our collective responsibility to address and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

This year’s theme, “Toward Beijin 2030” “Unite to fight against violence against women and girl” reminds us of the urgent need to intensify efforts to achieve a world where every individual, regardless of gender, lives free from fear, violence, and discrimination.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide. The statistics are sobering: one in three women globally will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. This is not just a women’s issue—it is a societal crisis that affects families, communities, and nations.

At Women Empowerment Initiative (WEIN) Bauchi, we are deeply committed to championing the rights of women and girls and ensuring they have the tools, support, and opportunities to thrive. Our initiative has made strides in promoting education, economic empowerment, health, governance and social inclusion. But today, we are here to reaffirm our dedication to eradicating GBV.

Achievements and Actions

In the past year, WEIN have:

  • Conducted awareness campaigns that reached schools, communities and various women/youths groups.
  • Supported survivors through counseling, referrals and safe spaces.
  • Partnered with local and international organizations to promote policies that protect women’s rights.
  • Empowered women and youths with knowledge and skills to stand (speak out) against any act (harmful practices) that demeans their identity in the community and result to violence.
  •

But there is still more to be done.

Call to Action

We call upon everyone here today—government officials, civil society organizations, community leaders, men, and women—to take concrete steps in combating Gender Based Violence (GBV):

1. Raise Awareness: Speak out against harmful practices and stereotypes that perpetuate violence.

2. Support Survivors: Provide resources and create safe environments for those affected by violence.

3. Advocate for Policy Change: Demand stricter laws and accountability mechanisms to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

4. Empower Women and Girls: Education and economic empowerment are key to breaking the cycle of violence.

Ending GBV requires a collective effort. Hence, the need to “UNiTE to end violence against women and girls”. We must challenge harmful norms, amplify survivors’ voices, and build a society that is rooted in respect and equality.

As we light the flame of activism during these 16 days, let it inspire us to work tirelessly beyond this campaign. Together, we can create a future where violence has no place, and every individual can live with dignity and freedom.

Thank you for your dedication and commitment. Let us rise, act, and make change happen.

Thank you.
