Binta Ahmadu a resident of Bashe Community of Ningi L.G.A, have been able to use scarce resources at her disposal to better the life of her household and relatives through her involvement into VSLA activities initiated by partnering Organization – Women Empowerment Initiative through OXFAM-LINE project.
She is a trader who is married with 5 children who has no steady means of raising money who is also struggling with her husband to support the family, but took the bold step to venture into a VSLA Group that was formed in her community.
She participated actively in the activities from the inception of Fahimta Savings Group as the group was called and started collecting loans to add to her trading business. A trend she imbibed in for a while paving the way for her business to blossom into strength, a feat she never knew will fetch her fortune and take her to the height she has achieved today.
According to her narration, she stressed that; “I joined the group with a little capital not up to #5,000 which does not generate much income for me but I told myself that saving part of the income will help me to have much money with time, over time my business began to crumble and I beseeched the group to lend me the sum of #10,000 which I added with what I had to re-invest it into my business. Behold, I became financially stable a little. The whole routine continues till date and my Business and Family are experiencing tremendous changes in terms of financial breakthrough. I could not believe it that I can now own small scale business that worth more than #30,000 and also own Taliya Processing Machine, with a bag of floor which I used for my business”.
I can now support my Husband in taking care of the family, presently I did not stop at my immediate family I also support my neighbors who are in need in term of food, if they cannot pay back I give them free.
I consider myself as the fortunate one, if someone will tell me that I will own what I possess within shortest period of time I wouldn’t have believe him, but today I proudly own property and business.
In view of this, I call on other women in Bashe Communities with a lauder Voice to see what Women Empowerment Initiative (WEIN) are doing which is an opportunity to develop our self in area of Business building by joining the VSLA group in order to scale up our business. Furthermore I will like to call and beseech on OXFAM Nigeria to Support Women Empowerment Initiative to carry more projects in Bashe Communities so that the life of the most Vulnerable Women in the Communities will be touched the way mind was affected positively within the period of this pandemic (Covid-19). I sincerely appreciate Women Empowerment Initiative who collaborates with OXFAM Nigeria to carry out various projects in Bauchi, Nigeria.
